Wikipedia News RSS
I realized there’s no RSS feed of the Wikipedia News section. I usually read the news every morning from the feeeed app, a great free app by Nate Parrot (he worked at Arc browser) that is simply an add-free RSS reader (that also supports Reddit, HackerNews, and others).
Recently, Reddit capped API access, which means that suddently I no longer saw news from r/worldnews in my feeeed. Although access for now seems restored, it seems to be working a little bit inconsistently recently. I wanted to have another source of world news.
That's when I discovered Wikipedia News section, and the motivation behind this project.
How I made it
This project was entirely “vibe-coded” using Claude, and by that I mean that I didn't read the code. It is written in Phython and deployed to GitHub pages. A scheduled GitHub Workflow runs every day, getting the newest links.
The whole project took about 30 minutes to write, more or less. I cannot imagine doing something like this in so little time! I imagine I will still take more time refining the whole thing, checking nuances of GitHub pages (apparently workflows could stop running if the repo doesn't have enough activity, I don’t know yet if activity from automations count!), etc… But still, I’m already finding it useful.
